Guillermo Maripán to join Brazil's Internacional as free‑transfer signing

Chilean centre‑back Guillermo Maripán will become Internacional’s first signing of the upcoming transfer window, arriving on a free transfer after his contract with Torino ends on 1 July. The club expects to formalise the deal once the Italian contract is terminated, with Maripán slated to sign a contract running to December 2028.

Maripán, 32, has earned 62 caps and scored two goals for Chile. His club career includes Universidad Católica, Alavés, Monaco and Torino, where he made 58 appearances, scoring three goals. At 1.92 m, he combines aerial ability with leadership, though some fans and journalist Renata Almada have criticised his decision‑making on the pitch.

Internacional will integrate him into a central‑defence group alongside Gabriel Mercado, Félix Torres, Juninho and Victor Gabriel, while the team sits 14th in the Brazilian league with 21 points ahead of its next match against Cruzeiro.
