Guillermo Ochoa to play sixth World Cup, will retire after 2026 tournament

Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa has been named in Mexico's 26‑player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking his sixth appearance at the tournament. At 41, Ochoa joins Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only players to have featured in six World Cups. He announced that the 2026 edition, co‑hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, will be his final tournament for the national team, and he may also retire from club football thereafter.

Ochoa, who has earned more than 150 caps, previously played in the 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 World Cups. His career includes six CONCACAF Gold Cup titles, a CONCACAF Nations League championship and a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics. Mexico's opening match is set for 11 June against South Africa at Estadio Azteca.
