Guillermo Ruiz proposes accrediting student social service as work experience

Mexican Deputy Guillermo Ruiz Guerra has called upon the Secretariat of Public Education and the Secretariat of Labor and Social Welfare to establish mechanisms that allow students to credit their social service as formal work experience.

Ruiz Guerra argued that while many students perform responsibilities similar to paid staff—developing skills in leadership, conflict resolution, and project management—this effort often remains unrecognized during job searches. He noted that the requirement for verifiable work experience creates a barrier for youth attempting to enter the formal labor market, effectively hindering their economic independence.
