Guimarães youth group criticizes meeting with Israeli Ambassador

The Juventude Socialista (JS) of Guimarães has criticized the reception of the Israeli Ambassador, Oren Rozenblat, by the Mayor of Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo. The meeting took place at the City Hall as part of a series of audiences for the investiture session of the Academy of Diplomacy.

According to the municipality, the discussions with the Israeli representative focused on innovation, technology, civil protection, human resources, and investment attraction. However, the JS issued a statement arguing that institutional relations cannot be presented as detached from the current political and humanitarian reality. The group highlighted the ongoing situation in the Gaza Strip, citing the death and displacement of civilians and violations of international humanitarian law. They asserted that economic development and cooperation should not serve as justifications for silence regarding the humanitarian crisis.

Additionally, the Bloco de Esquerda in Guimarães also expressed repudiation regarding the meeting between the Mayor and the Ambassador.
