Senegal prioritizes education reforms and youth employment
During a Council of Ministers meeting, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye outlined key priorities for Senegal, focusing heavily on the 2026-2027 academic year and national education reforms. The government aims to ensure a stable school reopening by recruiting necessary teaching staff, particularly in rural areas, and accelerating the construction and rehabilitation of classrooms to eliminate temporary shelters.
Educational reforms will include updating curricula with an emphasis on digital tools, vocational training, and the integration of Daara into the national system. To support this, a plan has been announced to connect 6,888 schools to high-speed internet. Additionally, the government is working to improve university living conditions, with a program to provide 10,100 additional beds in university campuses by the end of 2026.
Beyond education, the President emphasized youth employment through the implementation of the New National Employment Policy and the recent installation of the Senegal Youth Advisory Council (CCJS). Other priorities include maintaining public services, fighting cancer, and reviewing the 2027 state budget.
