Guinea attracts $7.8 billion in foreign direct investment in 2025
Guinea attracted $7.8 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2025, making it the leading recipient in sub-Saharan Africa and the second highest on the continent, following Egypt. According to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), this represents a 457.14% increase compared to the $1.4 billion recorded in 2024.
The surge is primarily driven by large-scale mining projects, specifically the development of the Simandou iron ore deposit and continued investment in bauxite. Significant capital was allocated to constructing mines and export infrastructure, including railway developments and export quays. Major players involved in these projects include Rio Tinto and the Winning Consortium Simandou, supported by Baowu.
To mitigate reliance on volatile raw material markets, the Guinean government is working to direct investment toward local mineral processing, with three alumina refineries currently under construction. Efforts are also being made to diversify the economy through investments in agriculture and hydroelectricity.
