Guinea authorities crack down on shisha and drug use
Guinean judicial authorities are intensifying enforcement against the consumption and sale of shisha and narcotics. In Conakry, Maurice Guilavogui, a manager at the Universel Lounge in Lambanyi, was sentenced by the Dixinn Court of First Instance to a fine of 50,000 Guinean francs for the commercialization of shisha.
In Kankan, the crackdown has extended to both shisha and cannabis. On October 21, 2026, five individuals were sentenced to prison terms and fines for shisha consumption, while three others received suspended sentences for the possession and sale of shisha accessories.
Additionally, 28 individuals were brought before the Kankan Court of First Instance following a police and gendarmerie operation near the Milo River targeting Indian hemp (cannabis). The court has scheduled the commencement of debates for this case on October 28, 2026.
