Guinea experiences nationwide blockage of Facebook, YouTube and TikTok

Since the end of July 2026, internet users across Guinea have reported that Facebook, YouTube and TikTok are difficult to reach or completely unavailable. Many resorted to VPNs to bypass the disruptions.

Government spokesperson and transport minister Ousmane Gaoual Diallo told a TV program that he is not aware of any official order to block the platforms. He attributed the problem to the rapid growth in data demand and insufficient investment in network capacity, while also noting the need for better regulation of the digital environment.

The Association of Bloggers of Guinea (ABLOGUI) meanwhile announced a targeted block of the three services, citing independent technical tests that confirmed the restriction. The group criticised the silence of the regulatory authority (ARPT), mobile operators and ISPs, calling the outage a breach of constitutional and international rights to freedom of expression and demanding an immediate restoration and public justification.
