Guinea fraud trial and Senegal journalist prosecution highlight legal battles in West Africa

In Dubréka, Guinea, Ismaël Sylla faces charges of fraud, title usurpation and breach of trust after allegedly posing as a prosecutor to extort money and property, with damages estimated at 171 million Guinean francs. The court is set to deliver a verdict on 21 July.

In Dakar, Senegal, journalist Mor Mbaye Cissé's trial for alleged dissemination of false news has been postponed to 6 July. He is accused of publishing statements from a claimant who falsely alleged a 100 million FCFA theft, which investigators have linked to an organized crime group rather than the individual.
