Guinea hosts 6th African Karate Championship for West Region 1

The 6th edition of the African Karate Championship for West Region 1 concluded this Saturday at the Palais des Sports du Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry, Guinea. Organized by the Guinean Karate Federation (FEG-KAMA), the event saw significant participation from regional athletes.

Guinea achieved notable success on home soil, securing multiple gold medals across various categories, including cadet, junior, U21, and senior levels. In the kata disciplines, Guinean athletes Mama Aissata Sylla and Ramatoulaye Hawil secured gold in the cadet and junior female categories, respectively. In kumite, winners included Yaya Touré, Ansoumane Conté, Thierno Oumar Sow, Mariama Penda Diallo, Abdoulaye Kaba, Alpha Oumar Barry, and Alhassane Sylla.

While Guinea dominated many events, other nations also performed well. Senegal was recognized as a champion, and athletes from The Gambia and Mali also secured podium finishes in various kata and kumite categories. Souleymane Gaye, president of the Union of African Karate Federations (UFAK), expressed satisfaction with the organization and the mobilization for the championship.
