A massive landfill collapse in the Dar-es-Salam neighborhood of Conakry, Guinea, has killed at least 30 people and injured dozens more. The disaster occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, following heavy rainfall that triggered a landslide of a large mound of waste.

The collapse buried nearby homes, shacks, and tents, destroying several structures. At least 22 people were reported injured, with six in serious condition. Rescue operations involving the military, civil protection services, and the Red Cross are ongoing, using excavators to search through the unstable debris for survivors.

The tragedy occurred on the same day the government had scheduled the landfill for closure. Authorities had previously issued eviction orders to residents in the area due to safety concerns, but many families remained in the vicinity at the time of the incident. Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah visited the site to oversee the emergency response and express condolences to the victims' families.
