Guinea launches construction of 13 modern butcheries in Conakry

Guinea’s Minister of Livestock, Alpha Bacar Barry, has launched the construction of 13 modern butcheries across the Grand Conakry region. The project, initiated under President Mamadi Doumbouya’s ‘Simandou 2040’ vision, aims to modernize the livestock and meat sector by meeting international sanitary and safety standards.

The construction phase is expected to last 10 months. Each facility will be equipped with 11 stalls, cold storage rooms, a transformation room, and systems for treating wastewater and waste. To improve meat preservation and hygiene, the project also includes the acquisition of refrigerated trucks and six refrigerated tricycles per site.

Beyond infrastructure, the initiative seeks to professionalize the butchery trade through training and improved working conditions. While the current phase focuses on the communes of Kaloum, Sanoyah, Manéah, Kagbélen, Sonfonia, and Lambanyi, the ministry plans to extend similar modern facilities to other prefectures across the country once sites are identified.
