Guinea mobilizes stakeholders to combat single-use plastics

The Guinean Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development held a capacity-building workshop in Conakry on October 19, 2026, to address the growing issue of single-use plastic pollution. Led by Minister Fassou Théa, the initiative brought together approximately fifty representatives from the media, civil society, religious groups, and local markets.

The workshop aims to develop communication strategies and citizen mobilization efforts to support a presidential decree issued by General Mamadi Doumbouya, which seeks to prohibit harmful single-use plastics. Authorities emphasized that regulatory enforcement must be paired with collective public awareness to effectively mitigate plastic pollution in streets and waterways.
