Guinea officially bids to host 2032 and 2036 Africa Cup of Nations

Guinea has officially submitted its candidacy to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the 2032 and 2036 editions. Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah signed the official application on behalf of President Mamadi Doumbouya, following a government meeting in Conakry.

This bid serves as a strategic attempt to recover after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) stripped Guinea of its hosting rights for the 2025 tournament due to insufficient infrastructure. The Guinean government views the potential hosting of these major sporting events as a national priority and a catalyst for socio-economic development, including the modernization of transport, hotels, and stadiums.

Sports Minister Cellou Baldé stated that the country has prepared a “solid dossier” and is mobilizing various ministries to ensure success. Current infrastructure efforts include the rehabilitation of the Stade du 28-Septembre in Conakry and the Stade Général Lansana Conté de Nongo. The bid faces potential competition from a joint proposal by Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger for the 2032 edition.
