Guinea partners with Brazil and China to boost rice production

Guinea is pursuing food sovereignty through strategic international partnerships aimed at increasing rice productivity and reducing import dependency. On September 4, 2026, the Guinean Ministry of Agriculture signed a memorandum of understanding with Brazil’s Institut Daniel Franco in Conakry. This agreement, signed by Minister Félix Lamah, focuses on the transfer of expertise, technologies, and scientific know-how to modernize the country’s rice sector and adapt Brazilian agricultural methods to local agroecological conditions.

In addition to the Brazilian partnership, Guinea is collaborating with China to boost yields. In the Boké region, an experiment involving hybrid rice was launched in August 2026 in partnership with YILONGHE Plantation et Développement Agricole Guinée SARL. This project includes a demonstration phase on 1,000 hectares, with 500 hectares already allocated to Chinese partners, to facilitate the transfer of hybrid seed production techniques to Guinean farmers. These initiatives align with President Mamadi Doumbouya’s economic transformation goals under the Simandou 2040 Program.
