Guinea Pig Sanctuary in Massachusetts houses hundreds of abandoned pets

The Guinea Pig Sanctuary in Salisbury, Massachusetts, provides a home for approximately 350 to 400 guinea pigs. Owned by Kimie Smothermon, the nonprofit operation serves as one of the few animal rescues in the United States dedicated exclusively to abandoned guinea pigs.

The sanctuary operates out of a converted office space where cages are stacked from floor to ceiling. Volunteers and staff manage the daily needs of the animals, which include cleaning cages and monitoring health. In addition to rescuing abandoned pets, the facility offers boarding services for owners who are traveling and assists with the rehoming of animals.
