Guinea political leaders debate medical evacuation of Kassory and Damaro

The decision to allow the medical evacuation of Ibrahima Kassory Fofana and Amadou Damaro Camara has sparked debate within the Guinean political class. While some figures, such as deputy Abdoulaye Kourouma, view the move as a sign of political de-escalation, others disagree.

Boubacar Demba Dansoko, a member of the RPG Arc-en-ciel political bureau, rejected the notion that this is an act of appeasement. He argued that the move does not constitute a genuine effort to ease political tensions. Dansoko noted that President Mamadi Doumbouya characterized the evacuation as an exceptional humanitarian measure based solely on health considerations, emphasizing that existing judicial decisions regarding the two former officials remain in effect.

Dansoko maintained that because the presidency stated the evacuation has no influence on legal proceedings, it cannot be interpreted as a political gesture of de-escalation.
