Guinea President declassifies 750 hectares of state land reserves

Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya has signed a decree declassifying more than 750 hectares of state-owned land reserves. The decision, announced on October 16, 2026, targets two strategic areas: the Simbayah-Wanindara industrial zone, which comprises approximately 315 hectares, and Kassa Island, covering roughly 435 hectares.

The measure is intended to facilitate the restructuring, regularization, and urban development of these areas. By changing the administrative status of these lands, the government aims to formalize the land tenure of current occupants in accordance with the national Land and Domain Code and urban planning regulations.

However, the decree includes specific exclusions. Lands subject to long-term leases, public infrastructure such as schools, health centers, sports fields, and green spaces, as well as religious sites, military installations, and existing road networks, are not included in the declassification process.
