Guinea prosecutor orders probe into national exam finances
Alphonse Charles Wright, the Special Prosecutor for the Court for the Repression of Economic and Financial Offenses (CRIEF), has ordered a preliminary investigation into the financial management of national examinations in Guinea. The probe covers the period from 2010 to 2026 and targets alleged embezzlement of public funds, corruption, and illicit enrichment.
The investigation focuses on resources generated by the General Directorate of Examinations and School Controls, Competitions, and Bridges (DGECS-CP). Reported figures include 5.724 billion Guinean francs (GNF) for special exam cards, 8.585 billion GNF for diplomas and transcripts, 618.12 million GNF for document legalization, and 5.724 billion GNF for special exam photos. Allegations suggest these funds were used without being transferred to the public treasury in accordance with accounting rules.
Investigators will examine the payment of supervision bonuses, travel expenses, and allowances for examiners and exam secretariats. The Director General of Examinations, Mamadi 49 Keita, and several other officials are named in the correspondence. The inquiry will also look into the origin of certain assets, including land concessions.
