Guinea bans France 24 from all broadcast and digital platforms
The Haute Autorité de la Communication (HAC) in Guinea has banned the international news channel France 24 from broadcasting nationwide with immediate effect. The decision, announced on September 17, 2026, follows a formal notice issued on September 16 regarding the use of terms deemed offensive to the dignity of President Mamadi Doumbouya.
The regulator cited the channel's refusal to comply with the initial warning as a reason for the escalation, describing the move as a response to an 'open challenge' to its authority. The ban is comprehensive, covering satellite, cable, mobile applications, websites, and social media platforms. Additionally, the HAC has revoked the press accreditations of all France 24 correspondents and collaborators within the country.
To enforce the ban, the HAC has requisitioned the Autorité de Régulation des Postes et Télécommunications (ARPT) to block digital access to the channel's streaming services and websites. The distributor Canal+ Guinea has also been ordered to cut the signal.
France 24 has since issued an apology and acknowledged an editorial error regarding its description of the President. However, the TLP-Guinée coalition has denounced the sanctions as an authoritarian move and an attack on press freedom.
