Guinea revokes magistrate Algassimou Diallo following disciplinary action

Guinean magistrate Algassimou Diallo has been revoked from his position following a disciplinary procedure by the Superior Council of the Magistracy. Diallo, a prominent figure known for his role in the September 28, 2009, massacre trial and currently serving as an advocate general at the Supreme Court, faced this measure after the release of an audio recording allegedly featuring a conversation between him and opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo.

Minister of Justice and Human Rights Ibrahima Sory 2 Tounkara defended the decision, stating that the magistrate was initially suspended under organic law L/054 due to facts deemed incompatible with judicial ethics and professional obligations. The Minister emphasized that the measure was based on administrative prerogatives and applied to the conduct rather than the individual's notoriety.

Supporting the decision, Presidential spokesperson General Amara Camara asserted that the sanction was legitimate and based on sufficient facts. Camara argued that disciplinary actions are a standard part of administration and maintained that no individual is above the law in the Republic of Guinea.
