Guinea State Lawyers Suspend Cases Over Unpaid Fees as Magistrate Removed

On 1 August 2026, lawyers appointed by Guinea's State Judicial Agency announced they would suspend participation in all court procedures involving the state because they have not received their fees or allowances for almost two years. The lawyers said they cannot continue their work under current conditions, although urgent cases will still be handled during judicial holidays. Me Lancei 3 Doumbouya, one of the affected lawyers, said repeated requests to the agency for payment have yielded no response.

In the same week, magistrate Kaman Gogana Konomou was removed from the Guinean judiciary by a presidential decree. Konomou had publicly denounced a November 2025 decree that appointed him as a judge for the children's court, calling it illegal and contrary to the constitution and statutes governing magistrates. The decree cited “breaches of statutory duties of reserve, honor, dignity, probity and loyalty” as the reason for his dismissal, underscoring growing tensions within Guinea's justice system.
