Guinean activist Bella Bah reportedly detained at his school

Guinean activist and educator Bella Bah was reportedly apprehended by masked individuals, identified by witnesses as national gendarmerie, on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The incident occurred within his private secondary school.

Bah's wife, Ami Bah, has raised alarms on social media, stating that the family has received no news regarding his whereabouts or the specific charges against him. The disappearance follows a controversial social media post by Bah targeting the first imam of Conakry, El Hadj Mamadou Saliou Camara, whom Bah had accused of corruption and injustice. Although Bah stated he had deleted the post to avoid ethnic tensions, the incident has sparked significant concern.

The civic organization Tournons La Page (TLP-Guinée) has condemned the operation, describing it as a violation of the rule of law. TLP-Guinée has demanded the immediate disclosure of Bah's location and has called upon the Prosecutor General at the Conakry Court of Appeal to clarify the circumstances of the detention.
