Guinean authorities transfer inmates to Coyah and Forécariah prisons

Guinean authorities are managing the transfer of inmates from the Conakry Central Prison to the facilities in Coyah and Forécariah to address severe overcrowding. Justice Minister Ibrahima Sory II Tounkara visited these prisons on August 20 to assess the impact of the influx on local infrastructure and inmate welfare, with a specific focus on the needs of incarcerated women.

General Amara Camara, spokesperson for the Presidency, stated that the transfers aim to decongest the central prison and improve overall detention conditions. The government is also reportedly planning future developments for the Coronthie site to resolve long-standing congestion issues. While the sudden arrival of new inmates has strained the capacity of the Coyah and Forécariah facilities, the Ministry of Justice has taken steps to reinforce medical supplies to mitigate immediate challenges.
