Guinean central bank union leaders acquitted in Kaloum court

The Kaloum Court of First Instance has acquitted three union leaders from the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea (BCRG) of charges including outrage to an agent, violence, and assault. The defendants, identified as Aboubacar Sidiki Camara, Momo Camara, and Aboubacar Yansané, were cleared after the court determined that the legal elements required for these offenses were not met.

The legal dispute originated on August 6, when a group of 12 union members attempted to meet with BCRG Governor Karamo Kaba to discuss worker demands. The group was blocked from accessing the Governor's office by his bodyguard, Warrant Officer Daouda Sankhon, who cited a lack of a prior appointment. This led to an altercation and a subsequent complaint filed by the officer.

During the proceedings, the complainant admitted that he was neither insulted nor physically harmed, though he noted he felt intimidated by the size of the group. The court rejected both the prosecution's request for fines and the civil party's demand for 100 million Guinean francs in damages. The prosecution has indicated its intention to appeal the ruling.
