Guinean prosecutors reject bailiff strike threats over Ecobank fraud case
The Special Prosecutor's Office at the Court for the Repression of Economic and Financial Offenses (CRIEF) has responded to threats of a work stoppage by the National Chamber of Bailiffs of Guinea. The threats were issued by the Chamber's president, Me Aboubacar Camara, following the detention of two individuals, Me Sory Daouda Camara and Mandjou Sangaré.
The legal proceedings stem from a complaint filed by Ecobank Guinée SA in June 2026. The bank alleges involvement in fraud, forgery of public and authentic documents, usurpation of title and function, and complicity. The case involves a 2018 seizure procedure related to a debt claimed against the Africof commercial center, despite the company having undergone liquidation and its accounts being closed in 2014.
In a statement released on October 5, 2026, the prosecutor's office clarified that the legal action is not directed at the bailiff profession as a whole, but rather at specific individuals for determined facts. The office characterized the threats of a strike as an attempt to exert pressure on the judiciary and affirmed that the legal process will continue to its conclusion.
