Guinea's anti‑corruption court tackles Conakry urban park dispute and upholds former central bank governor's sentence

The Court of Repression of Economic and Financial Offences (CRIEF) continued hearings on the Conakry Urban Park contract dispute. Former Rio Tinto Guinea director Samuel Gahigi told the court that the company selected after the original contract was cancelled was not chosen through a competitive tender. Videri Enterprises and other parties allege procedural irregularities, lack of transparency, and favoritism, questioning the qualifications of the architect appointed to the project. The tribunal postponed the case for further debate on 25 July.

In a separate CRIEF appeal, the chamber confirmed the conviction of former Guinea Central Bank governor Ibrahima Chérif Bah. The court upheld his five‑year prison term, a fine of 5 billion Guinean francs, the confiscation of his assets and an order to repay $10.005 million plus additional damages. Bah failed to appear at the hearing, and an arrest warrant was issued.
