Guinea's former minister Oyé Guilavogui faces 10‑year prison request in corruption trial

Guinean courts heard the case of former minister Oyé Guilavogui, who served as minister of Posts and Telecommunications and later of the Environment under President Alpha Condé. The special prosecutor asked the CRIEF chamber to sentence him to ten years in prison, impose a fine of 50 billion Guinean francs and issue an arrest warrant. Guilavogui, absent from the country since November 2023, is accused of embezzlement, illicit enrichment and money‑laundering involving projects such as the SOTELGUI revitalisation, a national backbone network and large forest‑fund allocations. The prosecution cited unexplained spending on contracts, land purchases and other assets worth millions of dollars.

In a related corruption proceeding, former Matoto commune mayor Mamadouba Tos Camara appeared before the CRIEF on 9 June 2026 but could not give his testimony. The court postponed his deposition to 30 June to allow review of new documents, including the commune’s journal and audit reports, in the case against former communal treasurer Mamadou Saïdou Baldé concerning the alleged diversion of more than 46 billion Guinean francs.
