Guinea's HAC threatens sanctions against illegal Web TV stations

The Haute Autorité de la Communication (HAC) in Guinea has announced it will impose strict sanctions on unauthorized Web TV stations operating within the country. This decision follows the conclusion of a national awareness campaign conducted by HAC commissioners across various prefectures to educate media professionals and local authorities on legal requirements for media creation and operation.

Despite the sensitization efforts, the regulatory body expressed concern over the proliferation of online audiovisual media operating without legal authorization, noting that this trend is expanding into rural areas and villages. The HAC specifically criticized the establishment of these platforms outside of legal procedures and the employment of personnel who may lack the necessary professional qualifications. The institution warned that such practices could compromise journalistic ethics and professional standards.
