Guizhou, China floods rescue over 10,000 residents
Heavy rain on 7 June triggered flash floods across Guizhou province in southwest China. The worst‑hit areas were the cities of Qianshi and Junyi and Changshun County, where continuous downpours swamped all 30 townships of Qianshi, with five experiencing extreme rainfall.
Local authorities launched a 24‑hour emergency rescue, moving more than 10,000 people to safety. By evening, 491 families (1,377 individuals) and over 50 trapped residents had been rescued in Qianshi, while roughly 1,000 families (3,000 + people) were evacuated from villages downstream of the Bankong reservoir after power cuts caused overflow. The Water Resources Ministry and Meteorological Administration issued a top‑level red alert for flash‑flood risk, extending from Sunday night to Monday night, and deployed thousands of flood‑control personnel to monitor 27 rivers. The operation follows a Level‑4 emergency response declared on 26 May after earlier severe flooding in the province.
