Guizhou court issues suspended death sentence in domestic killing case

A court in Guizhou has upheld a suspended death sentence for a man, surnamed Liu, who killed his wife six days after being released from prison. The incident occurred in April 2025, following a dispute in which Liu discovered evidence of his wife's infidelity during his recent incarceration for selling expired pork.

According to the court ruling, Liu attacked his wife, Zhang, with a kitchen knife during an argument. Following the incident, Liu attempted suicide by cutting his own head, neck, and wrists. The court noted that while Liu was found to have full criminal responsibility and acted out of emotional loss of control, the victim bore some responsibility for triggering the incident.
