Gujarat Announces Relief Package for Ahmedabad Rain‑Hit Traders

The Gujarat state government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, approved a financial rehabilitation package for traders, hawkers, street vendors and shopkeepers whose businesses were damaged by recent heavy rains in Ahmedabad. The scheme, announced by Government Spokesperson and Minister Jitu Vaghani at a cabinet meeting, provides lump‑sum cash assistance of Rs 100,000 to shop owners who have filed their GST returns for the last quarter, as well as direct cash aid to hand‑cart vendors and owners of small and large cabins in the affected areas.

In addition to cash aid, the package facilitates access to loans and interest‑subsidised financing from banks and financial institutions for eligible commercial establishments. The relief measures follow a similar model previously applied to rain‑affected traders in Surat, aiming to help businesses recover, restore confidence and revive commercial activity in Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s economic hub.
