Gujarat CM Honors Dr. Abdul Kalam on Death Anniversary, Mentions Nuclear Test Role
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel paid tribute to former President and scientist Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on the occasion of his death anniversary on 27 July 2026. Patel highlighted Kalam’s high ideals, simplicity and progressive vision, calling him a lasting guide for the nation.
Kalam’s contributions to India’s defence and space programmes were also recalled, noting his pivotal involvement in the 1998 Pokhran‑II nuclear tests. During the secretive operation he was assigned the pseudonym “Major General Prithviraj”, reflecting his central role in planning and security for the test series that demonstrated India’s nuclear capability.
The tribute combined remembrance of Kalam’s scientific legacy with acknowledgment of his strategic impact on India’s defence posture.
