Gujarat considers concession extensions for four major private ports

The Gujarat government is considering extending concession periods for four major private ports: Mundra, Pipavav, Dahej, and Hazira. This potential move aims to provide greater certainty for private operators and encourage further investment in port modernization and expansion.

The original 30-year concessions, which did not include automatic extension provisions, are set to expire at various times: Pipavav Port in September 2028, Mundra Port in February 2031, Hazira Port in April 2035, and Dahej Port in December 2035.

Sources suggest that any extensions may be linked to the scale of new investment commitments made by the existing operators rather than being granted automatically. While the proposal could set a precedent for other Indian states, the Gujarat Maritime Board has stated that no final decision has been reached.
