Gujarat farmer finds success with avocado cultivation
Danubhai Solanki, a farmer in the Kodhiya village of Gujarat's Bhavnagar district, has successfully transitioned to avocado cultivation to boost his income. After planting 50 trees three to four years ago using scientific farming practices and regular irrigation, 15 of his plants have begun bearing fruit, with each yielding approximately 60 kg.
While the crop offers significant market potential both in India and overseas, Solanki noted challenges regarding variety selection, stating that certain varieties are more difficult to sell than others. His success has drawn interest from the local community, with neighboring farmers visiting his farm to learn his methods. Agriculture department officials highlighted the fruit's high nutritional value and strong market demand.
