Gujarat forms committee to reduce teachers' non-academic workload

The Gujarat government has established a committee to review and reduce the non-academic workload of primary and secondary school teachers. Education Minister Pradyuman Vaja directed the initiative to ensure educators can dedicate more time to classroom teaching and student learning.

The review will focus on responsibilities assigned by various departments, including teacher training requirements and extensive data entry tasks on multiple online portals. The committee will consist of senior officials from the Education Department, the Gujarat Council of Educational Research and Training (GCERT), Samagra Shiksha, and the Commissioner of Schools.

Minister Vaja emphasized that the classroom is a teacher’s true workplace and stated that the government is committed to simplifying their duties in mission mode. The committee’s findings and recommendations will guide the state government’s final decisions on workload reduction.
