Vadodara Municipal Corporation proposes land allotment to Yusuf Pathan

The Gujarat government has approved a proposal to allot a 978-square-metre disputed residential plot to former Indian cricketer and Member of Parliament Yusuf Pathan in Vadodara. The proposal, which will be presented to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) Standing Committee on October 23, suggests gifting 500 square metres of the land to Pathan and selling the remaining 478 square metres at a 45 per cent concession relative to the rate fixed by the Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA).

The land, located in the Tandalaja area near Pathan’s residence, has been the subject of a decade-long dispute. While the VMC initially agreed to the allotment in 2012, the state government rejected the request in 2014. Following legal challenges and encroachment notices issued by the civic body in 2024, the state’s Urban Development Department has now granted approval, treating the allotment as a special case. The revenue department will allocate alternative land to the VMC as compensation for the value of this plot.
