Gujarat Health Minister facilitates free heart transplant for Surat resident

Kishan Pethani, a 37-year-old resident of Surat, has recovered following a free heart transplant at Ahmedabad’s U. N. Mehta Heart Hospital. Pethani had suffered from a severe heart condition for approximately two years, which continued to deteriorate despite previous treatments and stent placements in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Surat.

Due to financial constraints, Pethani sought assistance from Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya. The minister recommended his case to U. N. Mehta Hospital, where the transplant was successfully performed on June 27 under the supervision of Dr. Vishal Sharma and a medical team including Dr. Chirag Doshi and Dr. Pratik Manek.

Following his recovery, Minister Pansheriya emphasized the critical importance of organ donation, noting that a single brain-dead donor can save seven to eight lives, while donated tissues like skin, corneas, and bones can benefit up to 75 people.
