Gujarat High Court grants bail to jailed AAP MLA Chaitar Vasava

The Gujarat High Court has granted one-day temporary bail to jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava. The legislator, who represents the Dediapada Scheduled Tribe constituency, requested the relief on medical and family grounds to visit his stepbrother, Shantilal Vasava.

Shantilal Vasava is currently in critical condition at a hospital in Surat after allegedly consuming poison on October 12. Relatives indicated that Shantilal was distressed following the sentencing of Chaitar Vasava in a separate criminal case involving assault and extortion.

Chaitar Vasava is serving a sentence related to an incident in October 2023, where he was accused of abusing and assaulting forest department officials and firing a shot in the air following a dispute over land encroachments. While the MLA had initially sought 30 days of bail to attend a social work examination, his legal counsel pivoted to the request for a single-day release to attend to his ailing relative.
