Gujarat High-Speed Rail Advances: Tender and Station Near Completion

Western Railway has issued an EPC tender worth about ₹18,902 crore for the Sarkhej‑Dholera semi‑high‑speed double‑track line. The project will link Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej area with the Dholera Special Investment Region, the upcoming Dholera International Airport and the Lothal National Maritime Heritage Complex, and is part of the PM Gati Shakti national master plan to improve multimodal logistics.

In Vadodara, the high‑speed rail (bullet‑train) station built above Platform 7 of the existing railway is nearing completion. Structural steel erection and slab casting are underway, and the station will feature amenities such as waiting lounges, baby‑care facilities, retail spaces and integrated parking. Designed to resemble a banyan tree, it will provide seamless connections to the Western Railway network and nearby bus depots. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the Surat and Bilimora sections of the Mumbai‑Ahmedabad bullet‑train corridor are slated to start operations next year.
