Gujarat launches Uniform Assistance Scheme for ITI students

The Gujarat government has launched the ‘Uniform Assistance Scheme’ to support trainees at 289 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. The initiative was officially introduced at Kubernagar ITI in Ahmedabad.

Under the scheme, approximately 1.5 lakh trainees will receive Rs 2,000 annually via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to purchase two pairs of uniforms. The state has allocated roughly Rs 30 crore for this program in the 2026-27 budget. Officials stated the goal is to foster discipline, professionalism, and a distinct identity among vocational students.

Minister of Labour and Employment Kunvarji Bavaliya noted a significant rise in ITI admissions, with 90 to 95 per cent of seats filled this year. The program also highlights modern skill development, noting that half of the students in Advanced Drone Technology training at Kaushalya – The Skill University possess an ITI background.
