Gujarat Police doubles Janrakshak emergency fleet to 1,000 vehicles

The Gujarat Police is expanding its emergency response capabilities by adding 500 new ‘Janrakshak’ vehicles to its fleet. This expansion, led by Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, will bring the total number of these state-of-the-art vehicles to 1,000, operating 24/7 across the state.

The initiative is part of the ‘Dial 112’ project, which integrates multiple emergency services including police, ambulance, fire, women’s helpline, child helpline, and disaster services into a single platform. To further enhance accessibility, a ‘112 panic button’ has also been integrated into ride-hailing apps such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido.

Technological advancements, including a modern 150-seat call center and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, have already significantly reduced average response times from 27 minutes to approximately 10 minutes and 49 seconds. The new deployment aims to further decrease response times and ensure the nearest available vehicle is dispatched to any incident, regardless of jurisdictional boundaries.
