Gujarat Police reports drug seizures worth over Rs 13,600 crore in five years

Gujarat Police said that between 2021 and 2026 the state’s anti‑narcotics forces prevented illegal drugs valued at more than Rs 13,600 crore (about $160 million) from reaching the youth of Gujarat and other states. Over the period officials registered more than 3,700 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, arrested 5,346 suspects and seized roughly 1.36 lakh kg of narcotic substances.

On June 26, the International Day Against Drug Abuse, the police organised public‑awareness activities across the state. In Ahmedabad the Anti‑Narcotics Task Force held a cyclothon along the Sabarmati Riverfront, flagged off by DGP and Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G. S. Malik. In Surat a rally involving senior police, students, NGOs and residents was led by Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot. The events highlighted the state’s commitment to a “drug‑free India” and promoted community participation in anti‑drug efforts.

The achievements were highlighted ahead of a national meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, where a new “Vision Document 2026‑2029” on narcotics control will be released, outlining a coordinated approach to demand‑reduction, supply‑reduction and harm‑reduction nationwide.
