Gujarat Police seize codeine-based cough syrup and inspect medical stores

The Ahmedabad Rural Police conducted two separate operations in the Bavla and Bagodara regions, seizing a total of 659 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. In the first operation, authorities recovered 59 bottles from a vehicle on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot National Highway, leading to the arrest of a 24-year-old man. In a second raid following a tip-off, the Anti-Narcotics Wing seized 600 bottles from a residence in Kanotar village.

In a broader crackdown, the Gujarat Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) inspected 213 medical stores and pharmacies across the state between October 6 and 12. The inspections aimed to ensure compliance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and prevent the illegal sale or misuse of controlled medicines. During this statewide exercise, the Food and Drugs Department issued 25 notices for regulatory violations, with the highest number of notices issued in the Ahmedabad and Surat zones.
