Gujarat police simplify passport verification, ending police station visits

The Gujarat police have introduced a streamlined passport verification process that removes the requirement for applicants to appear at police stations. Under the new guidelines, verification is limited to confirming the applicant's citizenship and checking for any criminal record, and police will only conduct a home visit in exceptional cases where further investigation is deemed necessary.

Police Director General Gyanendra Singh Malik issued the directives to all police stations across the state, stating that the change is intended to make the procedure more transparent, efficient and less burdensome for citizens.

The new system aims to reduce unnecessary trips for applicants while maintaining security checks, and officials have asked the public to become familiar with the simplified process.
