Gujarat ramps up preparations for 2030 Commonwealth Games after flag handover

The Commonwealth Games flag was transferred in Glasgow to Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, who presented it to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during a state cabinet meeting. The handover marks the formal start of preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which will be hosted in Gujarat.

Sanghavi announced that the state is accelerating a roadmap to build world‑class sports infrastructure, citing increased central and state budgets under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Fit India initiative. He highlighted the recent success of Indian athletes at the Glasgow Games – fourth place overall with 39 medals, including a record para‑athletics haul – and said the upcoming Games will aim to showcase Gujarat’s sporting capabilities.

The flag will remain in Gujarat until the 2030 event, symbolising the Commonwealth’s values of fairness, friendship and mutual respect while serving as a rallying point for athletes and officials across the state.
