Gujarat reports significant decline in dengue and malaria cases

The Gujarat government has intensified monitoring and mosquito control measures following a review of malaria, dengue, and chikungunya trends in the state. Health Minister Prafull Pansheriya reported a significant decline in vector-borne diseases compared to the previous year, noting a 39.6 percent drop in dengue cases and a 22 percent decrease in malaria cases.

During a review meeting, the Minister assessed the capacity of 42 testing centers associated with medical colleges. These centers have processed over 1.35 million serum samples, with 2,099 testing positive for dengue. To maintain this control, officials have been directed to strengthen door-to-door surveillance campaigns and identify and eliminate mosquito breeding sites in both urban and rural areas.

Additional Chief Secretary Rajiv Topno has been instructed to coordinate with district collectors and municipal commissioners to accelerate prevention efforts. The government is also reviewing the availability of medicines, testing kits, and treatment facilities at all community and primary health centers to ensure no shortages occur.
