Gujarat seeks higher MSP procurement limits for pulses and oilseeds
At the National Agriculture Conference – Rabi Campaign 2026 in New Delhi, Gujarat Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani requested the central government to increase the procurement ceiling for pulses and oilseeds under the PM-AASHA scheme from 25 per cent to 40 per cent of total production. Vaghani also advocated for the inclusion of castor in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement framework, noting that Gujarat is the leading producer of the crop with an annual production of 16 lakh metric tonnes.
In a separate development regarding cotton, the Gujarat Agriculture Department has announced that farmers must register by October 31 to sell their produce at the government-fixed MSP for the 2026-27 season. Registration is to be completed via the Cotton Corporation of India’s ‘Kapas Kisan’ mobile application. For the Kharif season, the central government has set the MSP at Rs 8,667 per quintal for long-staple cotton and Rs 8,267 per quintal for medium-staple cotton.
