Gujarat to host Asia’s first desert-themed night safari
The Central Zoo Authority has approved the development of Asia’s first desert-themed drive-through night safari and zoological park in Deesa, located in the Banaskantha district of Gujarat. The project, managed by the Gujarat Forest Department, will be situated on 103 hectares of government land with an estimated cost of ₹542.14 crore.
The facility is designed around a desert ecosystem and will feature five dedicated night safari enclosures, allowing visitors to observe nocturnal animals after sunset. The park is expected to house approximately 2,700 animals and birds representing nearly 83 species.
Planned residents include both native and exotic species. Indian animals such as the Asiatic lion, blackbuck, Indian wild ass, leopard, and Indian wolf are slated for the park. Exotic species may include African cheetahs, African lions, Angolan giraffes, springboks, and ostriches, with potential additions from Australia such as kangaroos and emus.
