Gujarat Tops Indian States in Wind Power Capacity and Generation

Gujarat has emerged as India's leading state in wind energy, reaching an installed capacity of 16,086 MW and generating 33,706 million units (MUs) of electricity in FY 2025‑26. This output represents roughly one‑third of the nation's total wind power, with India’s overall installed wind capacity standing at 57,443 MW and annual generation at 106 billion units.

The growth is attributed to supportive policies such as the Green Energy Corridor Scheme, waivers on Inter‑State Transmission System charges, the 2023 National Repowering and Life Extension Policy, Offshore Wind Energy Lease Rules, and the Viability Gap Funding Scheme for offshore projects. State leaders credit Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national clean‑energy agenda and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel’s focused state strategy for creating an investor‑friendly ecosystem that accelerates renewable integration.

These achievements bolster India's target of 500 GW of non‑fossil‑fuel capacity by 2030 and underline Gujarat’s role as a model for other regions seeking to expand sustainable power generation.
